The 9th International Conference on Cellular Dynamics & Chemical Biology

On August 25, 2025, Chinese Society for Cell Biology and American Society for Cell Biology have organized the joint conference on Cellular Dynamics & Chemical Biology (The 9th CDCB) in Hefei. Many than 200 speakers and attendees joined the event from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, The Netherland, and South Africa. The scientific themes include organelle dynamics, multicellularity, chromosome stability, phase separation and neuronal degenerative diseases.

The ASCB former President, 2018 Breakthrough Prize winner Dr. Don Cleveland delivered the Plenary lecture on August 26, 2025,his lecture summarized the discoveries in his team from identification of tubulin isoforms, mitotic kinesin CENP-E, spindle regulator NuMA to chromothripsis and ecDNA. He also covered his singlehanded discoveries on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia. Aaron Gitler from Stanford, Fen-Biao Gao from UMass Chan Medical School, Bogdan Bintu from UC San Diego and Hongbin Shu from Wuhan University delivered 4 keynote lectures to share their research excitements on degenerative disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, synthetic biology and innate immunity.

CDCB2025 is composed of 6 exciting session with 40 spectacular presentation from Ben Black of University of Pennsylvia, Lars Jansenof Oxford University, Dan Foltz of Northwestern University, Andreas Merdes from Toulouse University, Yumi Kim from Johns Hopkins, Benjamin Vitre from Montpellier.

The amyotrophic lateral sclerosis session attracted large crowd with distinguished speakers include Lucie Bruijn from Novartis, Jie Jiang from Emory, Zhuoshang Xu from UMass Chan Medical School、Hristelina Ilievafrom Thomas Jefferson, Christine Vande Veldefrom Montreal、Christian Lobsiger from ICM, Magdalini Polymenidou from Zurich and Jone Lopez Erauskinfrom UC San Diego. They highlighted fantastic progresses on clinic trials using antisense oligonucleotides.

After three days of interactive discussion and debates, Don Cleveland chaired the wrap-up and closing. He thanks all speakers, attendees and volunteers for their dedication.

The CDCB conference series started in 2008 and become a landmark international forum for scientific exchanges and collaborations. Professor Yunyu Shi of MOE Key Laboratory for Cellular Dynamics, Chuanhai Fu of Anhui Key Laboratory for Translational Chemical Biology, Xing Liu of CSCB International Affair Committee and Liangyu Zhang of MOE Key Laboratory for Cellular Dynamics organized this event.

Dr. Xuebiao Yao, Vice President of CSCB and Secretary General of APOCB, welcome the guests and extended official invitations to colleagues from ASCB, APOCB and EMBO to join CSCB2026/APOCB2026/IFCB2026 joint conference in Hefei in April 2026.

The attendees have also enjoyed sightseeing in Yellow Mountain and historical city Xi’an.

This conference is sponsored by CSCB International Affair Committee, MOE Key Laboratory for Cellular Dynamics and Anhui Key Laboratory for Translational Chemical Biology.
